Between the Pick and Go
Destination Match
Destinations fall into five categories. Which one is right for you?
International—events in which you travel outside of the U.S.
Outdoors—events that highlight new or advanced outdoor skills or Outward Bound challenges on land or sea.
Science—events in which you experience science at a new level.
People—events take place in cities or the countryside so you can experience new cultures and new places.
Getaways—Two to four day events all over the country that don't require the 2004 STUDIO 2B destinations application.
More About STUDIO 2B destinations (www.girlscouts.org/adults/national.html)
Through Girl Scouting, girls can experience the world. Whether traveling to the other side of the United States or to the other side of the globe, the adventures, fun, and new skills girls learn will last a lifetime.
Girls write to us about the whimsical hoodoos of Bryce Canyon National Park or about striking urban symbols like the Statue of Liberty. They marvel at Alaskan huskies on a dogsledding expedition or laugh at the moon reflecting off the very first snow they've ever seen. Most of all, girls write about the wonderful friends they've made and how it all came about through Girl Scouts.
STUDIO 2B destinations events, which are sponsored by local Girl Scout councils, Girl Guide associations from other countries, and Girl Scouts of the USA, are our way of giving girls 11-17 a chance to be part of the international community of girls. They gather together to have fun, build memories, and test their skills and talents. Events are open to any registered Girl Scout who is age 11 through 17 or a graduating high school senior.
Destinations are planned around the interests and needs of young women today. They vary in size, theme, and cost. Of course, as with all other aspects of Girl Scout program, health and safety issues are the first consideration.
Event fees for national destinations include everything except airfare, personal equipment, and required physical exams. International destinations are financed differently and have all-inclusive costs, except for personal expenses. To meet costs, girls can get part-time jobs or ask their councils to help with special troop money-earning projects. Councils may also be able to provide some financial assistance, and Girl Scouts of the USA offers limited funds for travel. Ask your council for details.
Finally, something to be aware of: destinations are incredibly popular, so not every girl will get her first choice and some may not be accepted at all. But girls can always apply again the following year. Get in touch with your local council for application forms. But hurry. Space is limited. Good luck to your Girl Scout.
