Helping
Hands in the Heartland
Become a leader by making a real contribution to another person's life: help girls with disabilities to enjoy the camping experience of their dreams.
Picture It
Make a real contribution to someone's life at the Juliette Low Camp, a unique resident camp experience for girls who are physically challenged or multiply disabled and their peers. Now in its 47th year, the camp is operated by Girl Scouts of Mid-Continent Council and sponsored by the Kansas City Rotary Club No. 13.
As a camp Counselor, you'll train with experienced, special education professionals before the start of camp. During each session, you'll help campers enjoy swimming, songs, games, and campfires, and assist with their dressing, feeding, personal care, and transportation around camp (wheelchair power!).
From opening day to closing campfire, you'll provide a summer of memories for this special group of girls, while developing your own leadership skills in a disability related field. Between the two eight-day camp sessions, host families will show you Midwestern hospitality. Before and after camp you might want to try the Mamba (an awesome roller coaster at Worlds of Fun Amusement Park), shop at the Country Club Plaza, or visit the Legendary American Jazz Museum.
