Backpack through national forest lands with over 850 miles of trails. Explore an ancient mountain range with the highest peaks east of the Mississippi. Spend a day rock climbing or rappelling on some of the oldest and toughest granite in the country with a small group of other sky-seekers. Learn the language of the wilderness, "read" the rock, and with your knowledge climb to thrilling new heights.

Appalachian Mountains Rock Climbing XT

You don't have to be Spiderman to scale sheer rock faces. You just have to think like him!
Picture It
If you've got a strong desire to climb every crack and belay, then get ready to head out to the southern Appalachians with 6-12 other climbers to learn crack and face climbing. This area has some of the most exciting multipitch rock climbing in the United States—it's considered by many climbers in fact to be the best! You'll spend most of your time in Pisgah National Forest, whose 850 miles of trails and wilderness let you really get away from it all, among some of the oldest mountains in the world and the highest peaks east of the Mississippi.

Discover the ancient mesas and valleys of the Big Bend region of Texas, where the Rio Grande has carved canyons and left house-sized boulders perched along its banks.
Picture It
A Chihuahuan Desert backpacking course challenges your mind to interpret topographical maps and translate them into the landscape before you. Your body is challenged as you push past limitations and become comfortable carrying and living out of your pack. Big Bend National Park, on the northern edge of the Chihuahuan Desert, encompasses thousands of acres of beautiful mesas, tenacious plant life, and ancient rugged terrain surrounding the 7,800 foot Chisos Mountains. Your days there leave you warmer and wiser. Learn map and compass, desert botany, and hydration tactics—and your capacity for strength.

Here's your chance to learn backpacking skills as you travel through the high Colorado Rocky Mountains.
Picture It
You can do it! This trip will give you the direction and hands-on practice you need to backpack and work with a team. Participate in a ropes course and low-challenge initiatives. Practice orienteering so you'll never get lost! You'll have a chance to prove your new skills with a backcountry excursion into the wilderness by ascending a 13,000- to 14,000-foot mountain peak. Along the way, you'll participate in a service project and spend a day whitewater rafting. So, come on—a group of 6-12 other girls is waiting for you!

Florida Keys Sailing
Set Sail
Cruise the Florida coast, with mangrove islands and amazing wildlife.
Picture It
Imagine the heart of a vast tropical blue-green paradise with white sandy beaches and vibrant coral reefs. Swim daily, walk the deserted Keys, and learn to sail the shoals. Sail aboard one of Hurricane Island Outward Bound's 30-foot sailing vessels. You'll learn to navigate with charts and compass, and witness spectacular sunsets, along with approximately 10 other sailors. You will explore remote estuaries of the mangrove keys and see the birds that brought ornithologist James Audubon to the area.

This backpacking trek through the biologically unique Mojave and Sonoran deserts of Southern California may give you the feeling that you are on the moon—or at least, far, far away from your daily routine on planet Earth!
Picture It
Backpack through these remarkable landscapes, where winter temperatures are in the 70s and 80s during the day but nights are often quite cold. Learn to navigate with your team along complex routes to pick up water caches and new supplies. Along the way, you'll encounter some of our planet's best rock climbing—and there's a good chance you'll spot coyote, deer, falcon, tortoise, and an array of lovely birds.

This expedition will take you from the source to the sea: from the Appalachian Mountains to the rocky shoreline of the Atlantic Ocean.

Sail the island-studded coast of Maine—one of the premier cruising grounds in the world—and explore the placid beauty of western Maine's chain of lakes and rivers. While sailing a 30-foot ketch-rigged "pulling boat," experience the power and beauty of wind and water. While canoeing, follow water routes first used by Abenaki Native Americans, as they traveled from their winter camps deep in western Maine to their summer camps on Penobscot Bay. Set off with a whoosh across a snow-covered frozen lake with sled dogs!
Picture It
On cross-country skis, supported by a sled and team of enthusiastic huskies, journey in the tradition of the great polar treks in a land of unique beauty and intense silence. Learn to ski expedition-style with a backpack, mush a dog sled over varying terrain, and camp comfortably, despite extreme temperatures. You, and approximately 10 other "mushers," will join in all aspects of dog handling, including setting out lines, feeding and watering, harnessing, and packing the sled.
